Irish International Cartoon Festival

Despite a schism with the Irish Cartoonists Association the Irish International cartoon Festival went ahead this year in Rathdrum, co. Wicklow. Unlike previous years when the artist attendance was strictly limited by invitation the festival has been thrown open to all comers. Anyone interested in attending or participating next year should contact the festival by post or on phone at 00 353-44-46811.

Irish Yellow Press Group

The Irish Yellow Press is an informal grouping of Irish Based cartoonists who have managed to get their act together sufficently to do the following things:

  • Publish a magazine/comic every two months or so for the last couple of years featuring the work of Ireland’s professional cartoonists, a few would-bes and a motley collection of alien cartoonists who we have bullied into contributing. The main contributors have been Gerard Crowley, aongus, Billy Drake, Tom Halliday, Sean McArdle, Tom Mathews, Jim Cogan, Brendan O’Brien and Martyn Turner.

  • Have a small exhibition of framed cartoons which does the rounds of restaurants and art centres when required.

  • Has dinners for visiting cartoonist celebrities which has , so far, been mainly Will Eisner ‘cos he looks as though he needs feeding up.

  • The Group will act as a focus for any forthcoming Dublin Cartoon Art Festival, which has been mooted in the wake of the problems we have been having with the Irish Cartoon Festival in Rathdrum.

  • The Yellow Press group is a member of FECO and as such acts as a clearing house for info on festivals, competitions and the like for its members.
